I was the head of TaxTech at Uber where I was responsible for leading a highly specialized team of tax and technology specialists responsible for automating complex tax related to global tax compliance and advisory.

As the head of Tax Tech at Fonoa I was responsible for understanding the global tax landscape and translating it into actionable product development, and communicating Fonoa’s solution to the market.
I have supported OECD working party groups 9 (consumption taxes) & 10 (information reporting) since 2018. I provided input on digital reporting rules, compliance of sellers on ridesharing and food delivery platforms, and other tax topics.
My wife and I built a beachfront cafe, villa, and restaurant on a remote island in the Philippines. We did not use a contractor and worked directly with construction workers, landscapers, and interior designers.

Want to pick my brain - now you can!
I have a digital twin who knows my technical views, opinions, and experience. Now you have almost two decades of learning at your fingertips.
You can ask me about Fonoa, TaxTech at Uber, using LinkedIn in GTM, and a bunch of other topics (see AI Twin Topics below).

Ask my twin how global tax products actually get built, sold, and chosen by enterprise buyers. I cover why Fonoa exists, why customers pick (and stick) with it. I also cover how multinational enterprises select tax vendors, and where most platforms quietly fall short. I share where I believe the biggest risks and opportunities are for Fonoa and comparable companies.

An inside story of how panic, brute force deadlines, and near-failure sparked the creation of a dedicated TaxTech team inside Uber. How tech talent ended up inside tax, and what breaks when growth outruns process. Want to know how a handful of people turned manual chaos into scalable systems? Or what it really takes to build TaxTech team? Start here.

Interested in getting results via LinkedIn without being branded an influencer?
This is a first-hand account of how I treated personal content as a growth channel. I break down how I became one of Fonoa’s most visible voices and the tools I relied on. This is not a strategy to grow into an influencer - it is just a clear view into what actually helps your organisation and your personal brand.

Informal Marketplace Group - the most influential group for indirect tax professionals does not advertise. I offer a glimpse into the IMG - and explain why this group is the most valuable industry forum. I also explain why it's (almost) impossible to join.

Want to build fast? Build with Umpisa. My feedback covers why speed beats headcount, how a remote team became an extension of a small founding group, and what went right on the path to MVP. If you have ever wondered how to spot a development partner who thinks with you, not just for you, this story gives you a grounded answer.
